Julia Bluestone is a certified nurse-midwife with more than 20 years of experience working with national ministries and professional associations to improve their national health workforce. In her role as Team Lead for Health Workforce, she guides Jhpiego’s health workforce vision and strategy with a focus on improving health care provider learning and performance. An expert in training design and delivery, she leads our efforts to move beyond traditional training approaches to more efficient, evidence-based learning and performance approaches. Ms. Bluestone has actively participated in the creation of global standards for improving in-service training; led the revision and strengthening of national pre-service education curricula in India, Ethiopia, Liberia, Ghana, Tanzania, Pakistan, Jamaica, Malawi and Nepal; strengthened health professions regulation processes in India, Liberia and Ethiopia; and supported the establishment of national continuing professional development systems for health workers in Libera. From 2014–2018 she chaired the Frontline Health Workers Coalition secretariat. She is an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and from 2010–2018 sat on its Continuing Education Committee.
