Miandoum, Chad—Phanuelle Larebe, a seamstress, and Juliette Ndoumhorum, a shopkeeper, are working to keep their village in the Eastern Logone Region in Chad safe from malaria. They have seen the devastating impact of this disease on their neighbors and families.
Bauchi, Nigeria—When the tiny community of Warji in Bauchi State in northeastern Nigeria needed someone to lead their fight against malaria, they chose two farming neighbors, Salamatu Mohammed and Sadiq Baba Wakasau. Both volunteered their time and meager resources to save the lives of fellow farmers, pregnant women and children—all 224 of them.
Over the past eight years, the Angolan government has been working hard to improve the health and welfare of women and their families in this western African country.
