The Africa Health Security Accelerator (AHSA) is a transformative initiative designed to strengthen epidemic preparedness and response across Africa through innovation, collaboration, and locally driven solutions.
Launched through a partnership between the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), Jhpiego, and Villgro Africa—with support from Africa CDC and other leading institutions—AHSA addresses the urgent need for stronger, faster, and more resilient responses to epidemic threats across the continent.
With Africa experiencing nearly 30% of the world’s epidemic threats, AHSA was established to help countries shift from reactive crisis response to proactive preparedness by connecting innovators, governments, researchers, and investors to scale impactful health security solutions before emergencies occur.
AHSA is built on a simple but powerful mission: to help Africa respond to outbreaks more swiftly by transforming local innovation into practical solutions that save lives and strengthen trust in health systems.
By connecting ideas, expertise, evidence, and investment, AHSA supports sustainable systems that improve preparedness and resilience across the continent.
Current AHSA initiatives include leveraging AI for improved surveillance and early detection, developing programmatic and technical guidelines to support countries in integrating genomic sequencing, and fostering startups and private-sector engagement to advance innovative health security solutions.
AHSA remains committed to expanding strategic partnerships and welcomes opportunities for further collaboration to advance health security across Africa. Contact us to learn more at info.AHSA@jhpiego.org.
