Scaling Midwifery Models of Care for Equity, Quality, and Impact

From June 14-18, midwives, midwives’ associations, educators, researchers, partners and global policymakers from over 100 countries will gather in Lisbon, Portugal, for the 34th ICM Triennial Congress 2026. Held every three years, this is the largest global gathering of midwives, a unique opportunity to share knowledge, discuss pressing issues, and shape the future of midwifery and sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health (SRMNAH).

WHO Pre-Congress Symposium on Bleeding After Birth: Prevention Diagnosis and Treatment of PPH Champion Development

This training course is designed to help reduce deaths from severe bleeding after childbirth by strengthening the skills of the entire health care team that supports women during and after birth. By the end of the workshop, participants will be prepared to deliver the updated postpartum hemorrhage training and develop plans to train additional healthcare workers in their communities and facilities.

Part of the training will be led by Jhpiego’s Rosemary Njogu, Senior Regional Clinical Advisor.

Partner Session: Global Lessons for India’s Road to Midwifery Excellence

Fireside Chat symposium: The Lisbon Moment — Five professions, one call to action for mothers and child survival in low- and middle-income countries

For the first time, the senior leaders of the five global professional associations representing midwives, obstetricians, nurses, pediatricians, and neonatal nurses — ICM, FIGO, IPA, ICN, and COINN — will come together in Lisbon to strengthen their collaboration.

From the Womb to the Ward: Protecting Newborns and Infants through Maternal Immunization

Join the Maternal Immunization Readiness Network in Africa and Asia, and the Gates Foundation for an interactive, hands-on session where you will hear an update on new maternal vaccine programs, hear directly from patients, and reflect on (and provide input to) the development of respectful vaccine strategies for midwives, pregnant women, and their families.

Lisa Noguchi, Director of Maternal and Newborn Health at Jhpiego, will be speaking at this session.

How countries transform midwifery training through Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) - a hands-on experience
