Tigistu “Tigi” Adamu Ashengo is Jhpiego’s Chief Medical Officer, where he ensures that data and evidence drive decisions to reach the greatest number of people, applying a learning mindset that continually adapts to emerging insights. His commitment to scientific rigor is matched by deep compassion for the people behind the work—colleagues and collaborators, policymakers, and health care workers, and especially individuals and families seeking high‑quality health care.
He also serves as Project Director of the Reaching Impact, Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) project, he leads a multi‑country initiative advancing infectious disease and outbreak prediction, identification and response, maternal and newborn health and health systems strengthening through collaborative, community‑centered design. Across his portfolio, Tigi champions approaches that co‑design population health solutions alongside the communities and clients served globally, ensuring programs are grounded in lived experience, local leadership, and sustainable system improvements.
A global health physician, leader, educator, and researcher with two decades of experience, he has worked in more than twenty countries on initiatives in health systems strengthening, safe obstetric and general surgery, HIV/TB prevention, Maternal and newborn health. An author and co‑author of more than 30 peer reviewed publications, he brings a commitment to evidence, humility, and local partnership to all aspects of his work.
