When providers have the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to provide quality care on and around the day of birth, they will improve health outcomes for women and families and reduce the burden of maternal and newborn deaths in their communities. That is why Jhpiego, in collaboration with global partners, developed Helping Mothers Survive (HMS), a suite of hands-on, simulation-based learning modules designed to be delivered via a low-dose, high-frequency (LDHF) approach at the jobsite. The LDHF approach promotes maximum development and retention of clinical skills through short (low-dose), repeated (high-frequency), in-service simulation practice activities, spaced over time, and delivered at the workplace.
Our goal is to improve and sustain the critical skills of midwives, nurses, doctors, and those who assist them to care for women during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. As the global secretariat for HMS, Jhpiego introduced the HMS approach and has reached more than 100,000 providers in 65+ countries.
