  • Strengthened the delivery of essential maternal and newborn health interventions at both primary and referral levels to prevent and manage the leading causes of maternal mortality (postpartum hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and infection) and neonatal mortality (prematurity, asphyxia, and infection).

Strengthening accessibility and quality of maternal and newborn health

Adolescents and Children, HIV Incidence Reduction, Empowerment, and Virus Elimination (ACHIEVE) aims to reduce maternal, neonatal, and child mortality and morbidity by improving accessibility, quality, and continuity of care across the continuum of primary and referral-level pregnancy, childbirth, postnatal, and early childhood health services.

  • We strengthen accessibility and quality of maternal and newborn health services to reduce mortality and morbidity during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the postnatal period.

  • We improve the accessibility and quality of child health care services to reduce child mortality and morbidity, including improvements in immunization coverage.

  • We strengthen the health system, including an improved continuum of MNCH care and enhanced data systems to guide effective decision making.

Improving Access to Lifesaving Health Services

MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership

  • MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, funded by the United States Government, is a global mechanism that saves lives and improves access to quality, integrated health services by distributing life-saving commodities, medicines, and vaccines, and providing critical health care services for pregnant mothers and children under five. The project provides safe childbirth for mothers and babies, vaccinates children, treats deadly illnesses and malnutrition, and controls disease outbreaks.

For several years, we thought that our poor vaccination performance was linked to coverage issues or an overestimation of the target population. Thanks to the data quality audit conducted with the support of Jhpiego, we discovered that it was essentially a coordination problem in data entry. Once corrected, our performance improved significantly.
